Sunano Gaara moved to Konoha with his brother and sister in the middle of high school. The sudden change in environment did him good. He was able to sleep longer- three hours at most, recovering a bit from his chronic insomnia. Konoha became a training ground for developing his personality. He became easier to approach, though he still doesn't talk much and has a hard time trusting people. The only drawback was that his resistance to the changes in season, particularly winter, was low. Of course it doesn't help that he is fond of wearing 'artistic' clothing.

His relationship with his siblings grew at this point. He finally realized that he had 'family', people who care about him even though he used to ignore them. He finds confidence in Temari while relying on Kankuro for recreational activities when he gets too serious.

He bought his own apartment shortly after graduating high school, deciding to become independent at the age of 18. He paid for the rent by selling glass figurines (made of sand) he made himself. He took up a BA in Fine Arts, specializing in sand art, and graduated cum laude after his final project earned him recognition from the dean. The project was a large statue of a tanuki, which became a symbol of his college. He fell in love only once during his college years- unrequited because he never confessed. He sees love as a weapon that can hurt him. He only admits to loving his family.

He took his first job the same year he graduated, at 21 years old. It was a furniture store- a collaboration with a former classmate. The partnership abruptly ended only months later after the latter was caught squandering more than half the sales. Since then, he only works solo because of his increasing distrust of any form of partnership.

He currently owns a small store where he displays his art and works by commission. His works are varied, but he specializes in the supernatural- mostly mythical creatures. He hopes to someday be able to go beyond his usual projects and create structures for public use. He also has a part time vocation: a literary critic.
